Terms of use

The agreement

These terms are between you, the parent or grown-up using Mina, and Corementis FZE LLC. By using the app you agree to them. You must be eighteen or over to hold an account; children use the app with you, on your device, and never hold accounts of their own.

What the app is

A storytelling service. Mina, the scribe, writes chapters from the setup you give her; her painter draws pictures for them; a voice may read them aloud. The words and pictures are made new for you each time and are checked for suitability for the age you chose, but they are made by machines and read by you: please read along with your child, and tell us at once if something is not right.

Your tales

The tales made for you, the chapters as they were read to you and the pictures painted for them, are yours. You may read them, keep them, print them and share them within your family, and you may carry them away from the study at any time as one book, a single file that opens on any phone and prints.

They are yours for personal use. You may not sell them, publish them, post them for the public, offer them as a product or service, or present them as your own work or as a work of ours. Every carried-away book is marked, in its pictures and on its pages, as made for you and for personal use; the mark is part of the book and may not be removed.

The voices that read aloud are not part of what you carry away. They are licensed to us for listening inside the app, and cannot be exported or kept outside it.

Books from the Grand Library that you take home are copies made for your family; the originals stay in the Library and remain ours.

What stays ours

Mina itself is ours: Mina who writes and Kitara who paints, and the way they work, the house style, the Library and the Grand Library and every book in it, the voices, the names and the look of the app, and everything about how a tale is made.

So are the things you set up for a tale and the ideas in them: the characters, companions, places, worlds, moods and other customisations you choose or type, what the scribe learns from a tale, and the shapes of the stories that come from them. These belong to Corementis FZE LLC. We may keep them, use them, change them and build on them, put them in the Library or in other families’ tales, and enrich the app with them, now or at any time, without asking you, telling you, crediting you or paying you anything. We may also never use them at all. Nothing that identifies you or your child (an email address, a device, a child’s real name where you gave one) is part of this: those are removed before anything is reused.

Your own reading of a tale, the chapters and pictures delivered to you, stays yours as the section above says. The two do not conflict: the story on your shelf is yours to keep; the ingredients it was made from are ours to cook with again.

The Midnight Wing

The grown-up wing writes stories for adults, darker and not always kind. It opens only after you confirm you are eighteen or over, stays open until you close it, and nothing from it is ever offered in a child’s Library. You are responsible for keeping it closed on a device a child uses.

Plans and payment

Reading and making tales is free within the daily rhythm the app sets. Plans lift that rhythm and add voices, at the monthly price shown in the study in US dollars; your card is charged in your own currency by Stripe. A plan renews monthly until you stop it, which you can do in one press from the study, and stopping keeps every tale. Each chapter is written the moment you ask for it, so once it is yours we cannot take it back, and there are no refunds; that is why the first tales are free, so you can decide before you pay, and why stopping is one press away at any time. If you live in the European Union, you have a legal right to cancel a digital service within fourteen days unless you agree to it starting at once and to losing that right; the tick at checkout is that agreement, and the plan starts the moment you pay. Prices may change with a month’s notice.

Fair use

One account is one family: a parent and up to two children, on up to three devices. Automated use, reselling access, attempting to make the scribe write what the safety rules forbid, or reverse-engineering the service are not allowed and may end the account.

Our responsibility, and its limits

We work to keep the service available, safe and honest, and we fix what breaks. We cannot promise it is never down or never wrong. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Ending

You may delete your account at any time from the study, and everything goes with it: every tale, every chapter, every picture, the children and the devices. Delete means delete: nothing can be brought back afterwards, by you or by us. Carry your book away first if you want to keep it. What is not deleted: what the section “What stays ours” describes, with everything that identifies you removed; and payment records for as long as the law makes us keep them. We may end an account that breaks these terms, and will say why.

Who we are

Corementis FZE LLC is the company behind Mina. It is a consulting and software company that designs, builds and operates digital, physical and phygital products and services, end to end: from the first idea to the thing itself to running it day after day. It is registered in the United Arab Emirates. Mina is one of its products: we design it, build it, run it and answer for it. We are not a publisher of other people’s books, we do not sell advertising, and we do not sell data. We make a storyteller for families and charge for the parts of it that cost us money to run.

Why we make it. We build products like this one to learn: to explore new technology and what can be understood from how it is used, and to put working ideas in front of real people, families, and businesses, and see how they respond. Whatever these trials earn is put back into the app to make it richer, into Corementis FZE LLC, and into the people behind it.
